Blind boxes have taken the collectible world by storm, offering a fun mix of surprise and delight. For beginners, the sheer variety can be overwhelming—from adorable Sonny Angels to intricate POP MART figures. This guide breaks down the best blind boxes for newcomers, helping you choose a series that fits your style and budget.

Whether you're drawn to cute animal figures, anime characters, or stylish desk decor, there's a blind box out for you. We'll explore top picks from popular brands and offer practical tips to make your first blind box experience enjoyable and rewarding.

Why Blind Boxes Are Great for Beginners

Blind boxes are an affordable entry point into the world of collectibles. Unlike expensive statues or figures, most blind boxes cost between $10 and $20, making them a low-risk way to start a collection. The surprise element adds excitement, and the compact size makes them easy to display without taking up much space.

For beginners, blind boxes also allow you to explore different styles and brands without committing to a full set. You can sample a POP MART series, try a Sonny Angel, or even pick up an anime-themed blind bag. This variety helps you discover what you love most before diving deeper into the hobby.

• Start with a series that offers a complete set you'd be happy to own, even if you don't get your favorite.

Top Blind Box Picks for New Collectors

POP MART is a global leader in blind boxes, known for its stylish designer toys. Series like Molly and Dimoo are incredibly popular, but for beginners, the POP MART Skullpanda series offers a unique aesthetic that's both edgy and adorable. These figures are highly detailed and come with beautiful packaging, making them a great first purchase.

Sonny Angel is another iconic brand, featuring cherubic angel figures with various animal headdresses. They are small, cute, and perfect for desk displays. The Sonny Angel Animal series is a classic choice, and many collectors enjoy the thrill of hunting for rare hippers and robby figures. For a budget-friendly option, the PONPON Town Animal Blind Box Cute Mini Figure Kawaii Collectible Toy offers a similar level of cuteness at a lower price point.

• Consider a series with a known set list so you can keep track of what you might get.

Anime-Themed Blind Boxes for Fans

If you're an anime fan, blind boxes based on your favorite series can be a fantastic way to collect small, affordable merchandise. For example, the Chiikawa Sofvi Puppet Mascot Blind Bag features the beloved Chiikawa characters in soft vinyl form, perfect for fans of the manga and anime. These mascots are soft, squishy, and highly collectible.

Another great option is the Heaven Official's Blessing Floating Dream Series Shikishi & Badge Set, which includes beautiful art boards and badges from the popular Chinese animation. This set is ideal for fans who want something more than a simple figure. Additionally, the Genshin Impact Frost and Flame Series Connectable Acrylic Standee Blind Box offers connectable acrylic stands that can be displayed together, adding a creative element to your collection.

• Look for blind boxes that include practical items like badges or stands to get more value for your money.

How to Choose the Right Blind Box for You

When selecting a blind box, consider the style, size, and theme. Do you prefer cute and kawaii, or more realistic and detailed? Are you looking for something to display on your desk or shelf? Think about the space you have and how the figure will fit into your existing decor.

Budget is also important. While some blind boxes are quite affordable, others can be pricier, especially limited editions. Set a monthly budget for your collection to avoid overspending. Additionally, check the series' rarity and the likelihood of getting duplicates—this can affect your overall satisfaction and cost.

• Read reviews and watch unboxing videos to get a sense of the figure's quality and size before buying.

Where to Buy Blind Boxes Online

Online retailers like OtakuPop offer a wide selection of blind boxes from various brands, including POP MART, Sonny Angel, and more. Shopping online gives you access to exclusive series and international releases that might not be available in local stores. Plus, you can easily compare prices and read customer reviews.

When buying online, be sure to check the seller's reputation and return policy. Some blind boxes are sold as 'random' and may not be eligible for returns, so it's essential to understand the terms. Also, look for bundle deals or discounts on multiple boxes to save money if you're planning to buy several.

• Sign up for newsletters from your favorite stores to get notified about new releases and restocks.

Starting a blind box collection is an exciting journey. By choosing beginner-friendly series from trusted brands like POP MART and Sonny Angel, you can enjoy the thrill of the surprise without feeling overwhelmed. Remember to set a budget, explore different styles, and most importantly, have fun with your new hobby.
